In Portugal, May 1st is the Labor´s Day, a national holiday.
I don´t know of any specific food tradition related to this day but in Algarve many people use this holiday to initiate the "Caracois" season.
Caracois, escargots, are very appreciated as a "Petisco" in some Portuguese regions. In Portugal, we have different types of Caracóis. Personally, I prefer the small ones and I like to eat them with bread & butter and a glass of beer or soda.
