Portuguese Meat Stew

Today´s post is a recipe I like to cook when the weather is cold. I like to call this recipe mix stew with vegetables because I use two types of meat, pork and beef. This recipe also works well with lamb.

Ingredients:

~ 250 gr Pork meat in cubes
~ 250 gr Beef in cubes
~ 1 Medium size onion
~ 2 Medium size tomatoes
~ 6 Medium size potatoes
~ 2 Carrots
~ 1 Cup of green peas
~ 1 Leaf Bay
~ 2 Garlic cloves
~ Fresh parsley
~ 2 Tablespoons of tomatoe pulp
~ 4 Tablespoons white wine
~ 2 Tablespoons of olive oil
~ Water and salt

Directions

1. Peel vegetables except tomatoes. Slice the onion, carrots, tomatoes and garlic. Cut potatoes in halfs.
2. In a pressure pan fry the onion and garlic with the olive oil for 2/3 minutes. Add tomatoes, bay leaf and let it cook without lid in medium stove for 3/5 minutes. Add tomatoe pulp, wine, water (2 cups) a bit of parsley and salt.
3. Add the meats, rectify salt. Close the pressure pan and let it cook for 15 minutes in medium stove.
4. Open the pressure pan, add carrots, peas, potatoes and more parsley (optional). As you can see in the picture above, I always put the potatoes on top of all ingredients. Close the pan and let it cook for another ten minutes.
5. Open the pan and check if vegetables are well cooked. If they´re not well done, cook without lid until ready.
Serves four.

Bom Apetite!

Hi Mize! Except for the white wine this is just like our Afritada. The ingredients are almost the same but we often use the pork and chicken combo. If I make it with beef, no other meats are added. Many I should try it with pork. :D

Happy Thursday!

Hi! This one is similar to our mechado and afritada recipes wherein we add tomato sauce aside from the broth. Happy VD friend!

Hi Liza.
Oh...Afritada. Didn´t know about it but I know other cultures have this type of stews.
I also do just beef, we call it "Jardineira de Vaca".
Pork is a good solution, cheaper and tasty.
You´re such a resourceful fellow blogger, been learning new things from you :)
Good Weekend!
