Portuguese Coffee

Hello everyone.
In my previous recipe of Coffe and Honey Cake , I didn´t mention what type of coffe I use to make the cake.
One Portuguese Menu reader asked what type of coffe I use. The question gave me the idea of posting a picture of a very tasty Portuguese coffe to brew I often buy:

I buy this coffe in a traditional Portuguese grocerie´s shop. This traditional shops are in extintion due to big supermarkets.
The coffee doesn´t come in a package, I bring it home in a plastic bag and it´s sold in a minimum of 250 gr. It´s very fresh because the shopkeeper grounds coffe beans almost every day.

I keep the coffe in a well locked plastic box. It last longer if I keep it in the fridge. To make a strong coffe, I use 4/5 tablespoons for 1 liter of water. It´s a very tasty and aromatic coffe.
See you soon.

  1. I've had a lot of different coffees, but none of the Portuguese kind. What exactly does it taste like?

  4. Hello Mike,
    Difficult question...
I can tell you it´s not as strong as expresso. The aromatic smell comes from a mixture of different types of coffee, which is a secret of the shopkeeper. I think they use "Cevada" (used to make beer, bread and light drinks without caffeine) as well.
It´s nothing like Arabic strong coffe, it´s tastes more like brasilian coffe.
    Regards, Mizé.
